Clos Tiburon - 2014 Pinot Noir

from 20.00

About a year ago I had befriended and started working with a local grower/producer of some really delicious wine.  While their work is stellar, they have remained a bit under the radar. So sales aren’t through the roof and a larger than expected 2014 crop left them with a bit of extra wine.  They had these 5 barrels in the back of the cellar that had been a bit forgotten about, so we worked out a deal and I took the wine off of their hands.

Of course it would be ungentlemanly of many to tell you where this wine came from, it goes against the code.  However, what I can say is that it is from an estate in a remote part of Santa Barbara County where the soils are more sand than clay and pinot noir grows gracefully.  So that’s what we have for you today, graceful Santa Barbara County pinot noir from a great vintage that has been sitting quietly in a cold cellar until it’s recent bottling.

This is also the inaugural release for our new label Clos Tiburon.  When Jenn and I were planning our wedding we thought it would be progressive of us to combine our names Schepp and Roark and become the Scharks.  We chose the more trodden path and are the Roarks but the idea persisted and here we are with this new label. Tiburon is Spanish for shark and Jenn created a coastal inspired watercolor and pencil art piece which we used for the label.

This wine is not a super fruity, velvety, lush pinot noir.  It is more serious, more austere, more reminiscent of Burgundy than California.  No new oak, just earth and acid.
